What is it?
A chemical peel is a skin resurfacing treatment in which a chemical solution of varying strength is applied to the surface of your skin, allowing the peel ingredients to penetrate deep into various layers of skin to promote the removal of the outermost layers of skin. This process results in smoother, firmer, brighter skin by peeling away at the dead skin on the surface and revealing healthier, fresh skin.
How long does it take?
While a chemical peel treatment only takes about 30 minutes for an appointment, you can expect your skin to need 7-10 days to heal. The first 2-3 days you will most likely experience dryness, irritation, tightness, redness and potential swelling for stronger peels.
By day 4-5 you should notice increased flaking and peeling of the skin. Fresh, smoother skin will be revealed by day 6-7!
How often should I get one?
Chemical peels are safest to receive in the Fall and Winter when your skin is less exposed to direct sunlight. If you are trying to correct and treat a specific skin concern such as acne scarring or hyperpigmentation, you will see optimal results with a series of three peels done every 4-6 weeks. Allow your skin a full 2 weeks to recover before receiving other aesthetic treatments.
